The roads were slick and dangerous last Thursday, as we reported, there were 17 accidents in the Illinois State Police District 13 area.  They reported 5 in Washington County alone.  One was at approximately 5:31 AM on Interstate 64, as a pick-up truck driven by 32-year old Jonathan L. Webb of West Frankfort, went out of control, went into the median and rolled over.  He refused treatment of any injuries, but the vehicle had to be towed.  There were a couple of accidents on Route 15, just west of U.S. 51, with the first at 5:50 AM, as 26-year old Eric J. Wintermann of Ashley was eastbound on Route 15, when he hit a slick spot on the road and lost control of the vehicle.  It went into a ditch and overturned, but came back upright and was drivable.  He and his 23-year old female passenger did not sustain any injuries.  Another accident in that area was at approximately 6:35 AM, as a car driven by 35-year old Jennie L. Rogers of Mount Vernon, went out of control on the slick surface and struck a ditch embankment.  There were no injuries, but the car had to be towed.  Just before 7 AM, there was an accident on I-64 near mile marker 53, as a pick-up truck driven by 37-year old Brian S. Litton of West Frankfort, was westbound, as it hit a slippery part of the highway, went off the road and struck a tree.  Litton sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.  Another accident was at 7:15 on Highway 51, just south of Holly Road, as a car driven by 40-year old Fausto Ramirez-Sanches of Centralia hit a slick spot, went off the road and struck a ditch embankment.  There were no injuries, but the car had to be towed.
