The Washington County Board met last night and approved a couple of ordinances involving road projects, which is a standard Illinois Department of Transportation agreement. County Engineer Mitch Burdick said one is for County Highway 21, which is for resurfacing and shoulder work. This is for Phase I, which is the preliminary phase, including environmental and other surveys, pre-design and other engineering. The other is for the bridge on Peach Tree Road in the Irvington Township. This has gone through Phase I and is now in Phase II. This is now in the design stage, as well as getting the bidding documents ready. Burdick then updated the Board on the material situation after the snow removal this winter. He said they operated 18 snow days last winter and have already reached 23 this winter. They have spent $130,000 to date and will not be getting their full order of materials, as it is scarce. He believes they have enough to make it through, but if everything is used, Burdick says that will be the biggest amount of salt spreading for a winter on record. The Board then approved an amendment to the zoning map to allow Bryan Pedtke to have 3 acres move from agriculture to residential, so he can build a home. Circuit Judge Dan Emge then talked about getting things moved to the new Courthouse. County Building Committee Chairman Gary Suedmeyer updated the Board on how things are progressing with the new building. The plan is to having things moved over on February 21st through the 24th. Then court and business can begin the following day. He then said they are beginning conversations with Image Architects on plans, ideas and concepts on fixing the current building.
