A Perry County farmer won $2,500 for Saint Bruno Catholic School in Pinckneyville through America’s Farmers Grow Communities, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund. A ceremony was held Sunday morning, in which Ralph Loos of Perry County was selected for the prize, which he donated to Saint Bruno Catholic School. America’s Farmers Grow Communities works directly with farmers to support nonprofit organizations doing important work in rural communities. The program encourages farmers to enter to win $2,500, which is then directed to the farmer’s nonprofit of choice. To learn more, visit America’s Farmers at www.americasfarmers.com. Now until April 6, 2014, farmers can nominate a local public school district to compete for a merit-based grant of up to $25,000. Administrators of nominated school districts may then submit grant applications through April 21st. This year, the number of eligible counties has expanded to 1,289 across 39 states.
