An early Monday morning discovery of an apparent car crash on Odin Road resulted in the discovery of human remains that have tentatively been identified as those of a missing 19-year old Odin man. According to Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon, a local firefighter was traveling on Odin Road Monday morning just south of Community Beach when he noticed damage to the bridge. Closer inspection revealed a car had apparently gone off the bridge and had landed where it couldn’t be easily noticed from the bridge. A body was found inside the vehicle and has tentatively been identified as that of Joseph “Joey” Whyers who was reported missing and was last seen March 18th. Cannon says it appears Whyers had been there since his disappearance. An autopsy is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday to determine a cause of death and a definitive identity. An Illinois State Police accident reconstructionist has been called in to determine how the crash happened.
