The Nashville High School Choir was part of a special program last Thursday night. They performed in Shryock Auditorium on the campus of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, as guests of the SIU Music Department. NCHS Music Director Steve Browne says Dr. Susan Davenport of SIUC came to Nashville in the spring last year to visit and work with the choir. She was so impressed that during the summer she invited NCHS to open the Fall Choir Concert. Browne says there was no way they weren’t going to be a part of that. The students performed first with 3 songs, which were Elijah Rocks, Beyond the Silver Mountains and Tsho Tsho Loza. Then, some of the choir will be singing at the IEMA competition later this year, and they were invited to perform Handel’s Hallelujah Amen with the SIUC Choir. After that, the NCHS students were able to go to their seats and enjoy the rest of the show. This has been an amazing year for the NCHS music program. They were 5th in State, the choir sang at Busch Stadium for a Cardinals game, got their new uniforms, performed at SIUC and will be performing at the IEMA Convention in early 2014, an honor that rivals state championship for any sports team.
