The Rend Lake College Board of Trustees met last night and approved two program articulation agreements with Southern Illinois University Carbondale.  The programs are Certified Medical Assistant and Health Information Technology.  These agreements allow Rend Lake College students to complete an associate degree at RLC and transfer seamlessly to SIUC in good standing.  Students completing either of these programs through these articulation agreements can transfer to SIUC’s Bachelor of Science Degree program in Health Care Management.  The board accepted with regret the retirement resignation of Wendy Smith, Controller, effective July 1, 2017.  She has been with the college full-time since January 1999.  They also accepted with regret the retirement resignation of Rick Wasson, Maintenance Technician, effective March 31, 2017.  He has been employed full-time at RLC since March 2007.  Then, the board accepted with regret the resignation of Shawna Bullard, CEO of the Rend Lake College Foundation, effective June 2nd.  She has been employed full-time with the RLC Foundation since February 2009.  In other business, the board approved several curriculum-related matters and approved their submission to the Illinois Community College Board for action. This all included permission to develop a new hybrid Management in Health Care course and a new online Finite Mathematics course; approval of two new courses, Career Exploration in Health Care and Cosmetology / Barber Refresher; and changing both the Business and Mathematics degrees from Associate in Science degrees to Associate in Arts degrees.  The Board set the out-of-district tuition rate at $175 per credit hour.  They also approved the 2016-2017 program handbooks for Radiologic Technology, Phlebotomy, Nursing, EMT-Paramedic and Pharmacy Technician.  Commencement at RLC is Saturday at 10 AM and at 1 PM in Waugh Gymnasium.  They will also be streaming it live at www.rlc.edu/graduation.
