The Oakdale Grade School Board held a budget hearing prior to the regular meeting Monday night, and the school is in the black for the coming year. Superintendent Charles Peterson explains. “We are at approximately $29,000 in the black, so that’s a good thing,” he said. “The reason behind that is that there was a little more General State Aid money, and then also we had less personnel than we did last year, so a combination of those two things puts us about $29,000 to the good.”
Peterson also had a report on the LP pump station for the school buses, and he says those have been made possible by the generosity of the community. “TheOakdale Board of Education was very grateful to hear that Growmark donated the pump station to the school. This is about a $12,000 expense that the school does not have to absorb now. This is fantastic news, and I want everyone to know how appreciative we are here at Oakdale Grade School. Mike Pries and Brad Maschhoff have been great at getting everything set up, and helping us out whenever we had any questions. Not only the donation of the pump station from FS, but also the volunteer help from Joe Wisely for doing the dirt work and spreading the rock for the pump station to set on. Not only that, but setting the concrete barriers around the pump station also, and those four concrete barriers were donated by Quad County Concrete. We’re very appreciative and lucky to have such a supportive at Oakdale and the surrounding area,” said Peterson.
In regular business, the board approved the Application for Recognition of Schools, which documents that the school is adhering to education guidelines like lunch policies and teacher evaluations and training. Field trips to the Mitchell Museum were approved for kindergarten through fourth grade on December 1 and March 2 were also approved. According to the superintendent’s report, enrollment is at 77 students and Grandparents Day at the school is scheduled for September 30 to coincide with the Nashville Homecoming Parade. The next meeting date was changed to October 17 due to the Columbus Day holiday.
