The Washington County Sheriff’s Office handled two accidents and several other incidents in the last week. Last Wednesday, the sheriff’s office assisted the Illinois State Police with a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 64 near mile marker 52. Also responding to that incident were the Nashville Fire Department and Washington County Ambulance. Also on Wednesday, a deputy investigated a report of sheep in the roadway on Stone Church Road. The owner was notified of the loose sheep and contained the animals without incident. On Friday, the sheriff’s office responded to a two-vehicle accident on State Route 177 near Meridian Road where a vehicle driven by Alexis Owen of Hoffman struck the rear of a tractor driven by Austin Arnold of Centralia. Owen was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. On Saturday, a deputy looked into a vehicle parked on the shoulder of Sycamore Road just west of Irvington Road. The driver had briefly stopped to check on something and left without incident. On Sunday, the Sheriff’s Office was on hand for a two-vehicle crash at State Route 15 at Weaver Creek Road where a vehicle driven by Norman Wilke of Belleville failed to yield at an intersection and was struck by a vehicle driven by Coby Weaver of Freeburg. Norman Wilke and his passenger, Dorothy Wilke, were transported to an area hospital and treated for their injuries.
