The Nashville Community High School Board approved the tentative tax levy for this year at the regular meeting last night. Superintendent Ernie Fowler said that the 2016 tax levy, which is payable in 2017, will remain about the same as it was last year. ”
My goal is to keep the tax levy at about the same as it is this year,” said Fowler. “The overall projecting levy is about 4.9 percent above the extensions from last year. The goal is to look at our EAV and look at our growth, and I think we’re going to be in the neighborhood of where we are at this year.”
The board approved the tentative levy, and adoption of the final levy will be voted on during the November meeting, at which time it will be filed with the county clerk. The board also voted to approve the annual audit, as well as renew the contract for the coming year with Floyd and Associates. Fowler says the audit showed that the district’s books are in excellent order.
“We did have our district audit, and it came back with no findings whatsoever, which means it was a very clean audit,” Fowler said. “I would like to commend Stephanie Bauza for that. She’s our bookkeeper, and she keeps me in line and makes sure I’m doing things right, and the auditors keep her in line and makes sure she’s doing things right, and it looks like we’re doing things right. We didn’t get any kind of notations or anything, and the auditors think we’re going to have a 3.65 or recognition status, and that’s the highest designation you can receive, so we’re proud of that.”
In other business, the board approved overnight an out of state field trip for Mrs. Bergmann’s Life Science class to endangered wolf center in Eureka, Missouri, as well as the overnight trip request for the band trip to Orlando, Florida in June. The administrator compensation plan, which is available to view on the school website, as well as a continuation of the risk management plan and the review of IASB policies were also approved. In personnel matters, the board hired Kevin Meyer as the freshman girls’ basketball coach and Alyssa Lohmann as the new assistant dance coach, replacing Kaela Stanowski. The next board meeting is set for November 21.
