The Oakdale Grade School Board met Monday night and heard a report on possible revenue options for replacing the school’s roof.  Superintendent Charles Peterson said that the cost of a new roof could run up to $200,000, and he wanted to present some options for the board before a decision was made.

“We received our ten-year health life safety survey, and on that survey we have a few things that need to be done around the school,” Peterson said.  “One of the main things is getting a new roof put on, and that’s going to cost upwards of $200,000.  I had Kevin Wills come in from First Midstate, and he discussed some alternate revenue options that are open to schools in Illinois under school code.”
No actions were taken by the board, as Peterson said he wanted an expert to go over some of the different options available before asking the board for a decision. The Board did take action on another matter, voting to purchase new fire-proof doors and closers to be in compliance with health/life safety guidelines.  The board heard a first reading of press policy updates, and Peterson talked the 2016 Tax Levy which will not be over 5 percent. More details will be presented at the next meeting. The board also discussed options for the floor of the bus shed.  Peterson said that the shed could also be used for storage, so some sort of flooring would be needed to keep records intact.

“We’re looking at either putting some rock or asphalt millings, or possibly getting some concrete put in,” said Peterson. “The plan is to possibly use some of the bus shed for storage, and some of the items we might put out there would be some records of different things and paperwork.  Whenever we have things like that out there, it’s a possibility they could get wet, so if we have concrete out there we can put it up without worrying about it getting wet.”
After a closed session, the board approved medical leave for Mrs. Fairbanks, as well as approved Stephanie Goedken to fill in for Fairbanks during her leave. Alexis Zachies  was also approved as an individual aide.  In Peterson’s superintendent’s report, he went over the calendar for the next couple of week. Second quarter progress reports will be sent home this Friday, and Thanksgiving break starts with a 2 o’clock dismissal on Tuesday, November 22, with classes starting again on Monday, November 28.  The Christmas program is set for Thursday, December 15 at 6:30 p.m.  The next board meeting will be held December 12 at 7:30 p.m.
