More information has been released, in regard to the recent arrest of a Centralia High School teacher and his multiple drug charges. 62-year-old James White was recently arrested, just before midnight on Monday, after a traffic stop between Route 161 and Route 127 in Clinton County. Clinton County Sheriff Doug Maue states that a deputy was conducting a traffic stop and noticed White had an open container inside of the vehicle. The deputy who conducted the traffic stop is the county’s K-9 officer. After having White complete a field sobriety test, he asked if the dog could check the outside of the vehicle. After White reportedly gave permission, the dog twice alerted the officer of the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was then done by the officer, who eventually found cannabis and cocaine. White was then immediately arrested and taken to the Clinton County Jail, where he was eventually formally charged with Class 4 felony possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor for possession of between 10 to 30 grams of cannabis. Bail was set for White at $10,000, but he was released from the Clinton County Jail after posting $1,000 cash bond. White had his request for an appointment of a public defender was denied on Monday in court. His next scheduled appearance is set for July 24th for his status hearing. Centralia High School Superintendent Chuck Lane confirmed that White has been employed by CHS for 30 years and teaches Social Science at the school.
