A crash occurred on Thursday morning, which involved 3 semi-trucks, results in one deaths along I-57 near Ina. A white 2015 Freightliner semi-tractor, towing a van trailer and an orange 2017 Western Star straight truck were both traveling along southbound I-57, just before 9am. They both approached slowed traffic, due to a recovery of an overturned vehicle near mile-marker 79. As the 2 semis were reducing their speed, a red 2015 Volva truck tractor, towing a van trailer, failed to reduce their speed and collided with the trailer of the white semi, which caused the white semi to hit the rear of the orange semi. Both the white and orange vehicle suffered major damage in result of the accident. 1st responders arrived at the scene, with the Jefferson County Coroner pronouncing that the driver of the red semi died at the scene. The drivers of the orange and white semis both suffered minor injuries and were taken to area hospitals. All southbound lanes on I-57 were closed for approximately 7 hours, while the crash investigation was conducted and cleanup of the roadway. Traffic was forced to be rerouted to I-64 east, then Route 37 south. The investigation on the crash continues, with no names released by ISP officers.
