Kidde announced that they are recalling almost 500,000 dual-sensor smoke detectors in the United States and in Canada on Wednesday, since there is a manufacturing malfunction that can compromise the devices’ ability to detect smoke. The recall was issued by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, which includes over 450,000 smoke alarms in the United States. A yellow cap was left on during manufacturing, which covers one of the two smoke sensors. This can pose a risk to people, since it could potentially not alarm if a fire is in the home. Dual-sensor smoke detectors use photoelectric and ionization technology to detect both smoldering and fast-moving fires. The recalled models are the Kidde PI20-10 and the Kidde PI90-10.
