A fire was started at around 6pm on Tuesday, to a home along the 1400 block of South Elm Street in Centralia. That is according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Firefighters responded to the house, where they found a suitcase burned in the corner of the room, which was supposed to be vacant. Reports say that the suitcase appeared to have been full of papers, despite claims by one person who was at the home, saying that his clothes were inside. Firefighters did find the clothes, which were underneath the burned suitcase. The home owner lives in Edwardsville and reportedly told officers that no one had permission to be at the house. Several people acknowledged to authorities that they lived at the house, even providing officials with their names. No injuries were reported, and the damage was limited to the suitcase. Minor smoke damage was also reported at the house.
