Lawmakers in Illinois send Governor Rauner a legislation, that would require him and his successors to use the governor’s office funds to help pay people who work for them. Senate lawmakers voted 46 to 7 on Thursday, in favor of the measure to eliminate the process that is called “off-shoring” salaries. For the last few decades, governors of both parties have made their payrolls look leaner, by paying some employees out of other agencies’ budgets. The legislation was pushed by Democratic state Comptroller Susana Mendoza, who has been feuding with Rauner over the governor’s management. Mendoza and Bunker Hill Democratic Senator Andy Manar noted that executives of both parties have off-shored before, the legislation would only apply this measure to future governors. Rauner spokeswoman Rachel Bold said that his administration has publicly reported the governor’s employees and their salaries, hiding nothing.
