The Nashville City Council met for a regular meeting last night at City Hall. At that meeting, they approved a purchase of a new video camera system for the police department’s questioning and interrogation room. The purchase will be for 1-year, with no contract on the system. The cost was at about $6,600, with the option to continue with the system after the 1st year. The summer hours will change at the start of Tuesday May 29th for the Street, Water, Sewer and Gas departments. The new timeframe will be from 6am to 230pm. That means that for trash pickup, citizens need to have their bags set out by 6am on their pickup day. The Street department also received an email from IPEF, where it stated that they were accepted for a grant this year, which will be mailed sometime in the next month. The council approved the water and sewer department to begin finding a quote on replacing the sewer main along highway 15. That main is located in front Zapp Garage along Highway 15, which is older and needs to be replaced by a contractor. The new main will need to be away from the building, since it is so close to where it is located. They also were approved to begin looking for quotes on a new utility truck. The utility superintendent for gas needs a new truck, since it is about 14 or 15 years old. The department will now begin to look for a new truck. The city of Nashville will also sometime be holding a special meeting to discuss the possibility on a new backhoe and ag tractor, since they had been receiving bids. The meeting will determine what department will receive the machines and how they will be used. Mayor Erik Rolf announced that there is an opening on the Zoning Board of Appeals. He also wanted make the council aware of the water main break at Rend Lake, which has affected communities south and east of Washington County. He said that the Water Plant in Nashville has made themselves available for any help for people who were affected. The next city council meeting is on Thursday, June 7th.
