Governor Bruce Rauner issued a disaster proclamation for 9 different Illinois counties in our area, who were affected by the water main break at the Rend Lake Conservancy District. Rauner made the announcement on Friday, during a visit to the area, in order to get an update on the water restoration efforts at Rend Lake. The break left cities short on water and forced schools and businesses to close. Officials say that the breach in the 36-inch water distribution line at the district’s Benton-area water plant cut water services to over 175,000 people. All of the systems that are served by the Rend Lake Conservancy District are continuing their water boil orders. Rauner stated in his proclamation that the affected counties included Franklin, Hamilton, Jackson, Jefferson, Parry, Saline, Washington, White and Williamson counties. His order ensures that the affected communities will have state support until all water supply issues are resolved. The water issue has been restored to full capacity and all calls for water conservation have ended, all affected communities remain under a boil order until local authorities are ensured that the water is safe for consumption.
