A potential shooting in Indiana is prevented by a former Southern Illinois University Carbondale football player, who was a science teacher at the school, after he tackled him as he entered the middle school in Indiana. 29-year-old Jason Seaman is a football coach and a teacher at Noblesville Middle School in Indiana. The former SIUC football players graduated SIU with a major in Elementary Education and played for the university from 2007 to 2010. An eye witness report from a student stated, “the gunman took about 4 to 5, maybe 6 shots, with one of them hitting a girl about 10 feet from me. Mr. Seaman then started running towards him, and tackled him to the ground. We were all hiding in the back of the classroom behind some desks, here he was found yelling to call 9-11 and for us to get out of the building as fast as we could.” A Facebook post from Seaman’s mother reports that he was shot 3 times, in the abdomen, hip and forearm, but he was doing well after surgery.
