The Nashville District 49 Board of Education met for a regular monthly meeting this last Thursday. At that meeting, the district received their Federal IDEA Local Determination Report. That report determines the performance of the Special Education Curriculum, which the district received a 4 out of 4 in all possible areas. The 2018-2019 student handbook was also approved, with some minor changes. One of the major changes approved was the grading scale and summer school requirements, which will be more relaxed. The school policy at summer school will be much more lenient too. Janine Pieszchalski was approved to be the KSED Governing Board member for the next school year. After the board met for a closed session, two hiring were approved. Emily Harre was approved to become the new 3rd Grade Elementary school teacher in Science and Social Studies. Liz Pender was approved to become a full-time paraprofessional for the 2018-2019 school year. Pender has worked with the district as a part-time employee as a paraprofessional. Also the board approved the Extra-Curricular Coaching List for next year, with no changes in coaches or sponsors. There were also some temporary summer workers that were approved to help out this summer on painting and light work on the building. Superintendent Mike Brink announced that there was still an employment opportunity at the district as a part-time receptionist, who would work 1 or 2 days out of the week. It was also announced that the early childhood special education class is at 9 students, with a maximum of 10 allowed in one classroom. If that figure gets over 10, then a 2nd teacher must be hired and the class would be split. The 2017-2018 fiscal year ends on June 30th, with the district expected to remain in the black, meaning they had a positive year on funding. Additional state money is expected before that deadline, but the district is still owed $180,000. The next board meeting for Nashville District 49 is on June 28th.
