The Washington County Board met for a regular monthly meeting last night. At that meeting, the highway department had 3 resolutions that the board approved. That included two replacement culverts in the Plum Hill District, along Little Prairie Road, and in Venedy at Cattlepen Road. The other resolution that was approved was in Johannisburg, at Whipperwill Road, which will be a $40,000 project. Whipperwill Road needs to have a triple culvert replacement and the road has been closed since. This will be a 50/50 project with the county, where a local match will be found, and should last about a month to complete. The county was up this month in claims, with about $126,000 reported. Under the state’s attorney’s report, their seized funds were up, for a total of $1,027 in general fund. State Attorney Daniel Bronke announced that felonies are up in Washington County, with 53 felonies reported so far in 2018. Last year, the county had about 80 felonies reported. The County Clerk and Recorder announced that the county received $15,000 by the state board of elections, used for the voter registration program and for a new server. Under zoning, 2 cases were approved. Matthew Lockart was approved to turn 2 acres of agriculture to residential r-1, for residential use for a stick build house. Jerome Jablonski was also approved to have a double-wide trailer on agriculture property for 3 years, while he has renovations to his home. The zoning board did announce that there could be a possible renovation on the solar ordinance in the county, which the board will vote on next month. There have been potential suiters to put on solar frames in Washington County, with one of them possibly using 500 acres. The board approved the annual audit, which was a 114-page report on money spend and available in county funds. Election Judges were approved for a 2-year term last night. The last item on the agenda was an approval to proceed with the possible removal of the trees at the courthouse. They have had multiple issues with limbs falling down and hitting cars parked outside the courthouse. That issue will be revisited at another meeting. The next county board meeting will be on Tuesday, August 14th.
