Jury selection earlier this week, with the trial starting sometime later in Jefferson County, in regard to embezzlement by a former Webber Township School District Administrator. Attorney General Lisa Madigan charged 56-year-old Sabrina Wheatley in November 2016, with a Class X felony theft of government property in excess of $100,000, a Class 3 felony for official misconduct and 2 Class 4 felonies for filing fraudulent tax returns. Madigan alleges that on 2 or more occasions, the former administrator for the school in Bluford illegally accessed the district’s account, and stole over $100,000 in district money. Wheatley was arrested in Florida, when Madigan’s office was seeking her extradition in Illinois to her charges. If convicted, she faces 6 to 30 years in prison and could potentially lose her pension. The investigation was conducted by the Illinois State Police Department and the Illinois Department of Revenue’s Criminal Investigations Division.
