The Illinois State Board of Elections stated that Governor Bruce Rauner’s veto of the plan to remove Illinois from the Interstate Voter Crosscheck Program will not change much, since Illinois is not involved or used the Crosscheck right now. Spokesman of the Illinois State Board of Elections Matt Dietrich said that the state of Illinois has not sent any voter date to the program in over a year, and has not used any information from Crosscheck in the past 2 years. Dietrich said that Crosscheck has been essentially dormant for Illinois. He stated, “Back in January, Crosscheck told us that they were waiting on an assessment form the Department of Homeland Security on their security and date handlings. They said that they would get back to us, and would ask for any date or accept any data until they proved they had a clean bill of health from the DHS.” Dietrich said that the state board looked at dropping Crosscheck earlier this year, but the board could not agree on whether or not it was a good idea. Dietrich stated, “The real question now for us, is to determine what the status of the Crosscheck itself is in. The ball is in their court right now and they told us that when the DHS says they are good to go that we will hear from them. At this time, we have not heard anything from them.”
