A blown tire is to blame, in regard to a 3 semi-truck crash on Thursday afternoon, just south of Salem along Interstate 57, which cause the southbound lanes to be closed for several hours. According to the Illinois State Police Department, Yazid Abdullah-Alu Al Nobi, of Michigan, was traveling northbound on I-57, when his front steer tire blew up, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. He then crossed the center median and struck two southbound semis. Al Nobi’s semi struck the two other semis in their trailer axles, knocking the axles off of both. They continues heading southbound, before they both came to a rest on the right side of the interstate. Al Nobi’s truck came to a rest across both southbound lanes on I-57. The crash was at around 1220 in the afternoon, 4 miles south of Salem. This crash closed off southbound lanes on I-57 for around 5 and ½ hours, for ISP to conduct an investigation and to clean up the scene. One southbound lane was reopened around 5pm on Thursday. Al Nobi was given a ticket for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, and he and his passenger were taken to an area hospital for treatment. Ongoing traffic was detoured to US 50 in Salem, with the intent of routing vehicles to US 51 in Sandoval, however, many vehicles instead used Selmaville Road and Bell club Road, causing traffic to back up Green Street Road, at Route 161.
