Three men will remain in jail, after being arrested on Friday afternoon in Mt. Vernon, for a shooting of a man along the 900 block of South 25th Street. According to reports, the Mt. Vernon Police Department responded to a report of a shooting along South 25th Street. Additional reports indicated that one person had been shot, with multiple people fleeing the area on foot and the suspects fleeing the area in a vehicle. Medical personnel and the Mt. Vernon Fire Department were also dispatched to the scene. Once officers arrived, they were able to confirm that one person was shot, with the Jefferson County Coroner stating that he was following the vehicle suspected of the shooting. They were traveling northbound along Interstate 57 and exited off at the Dix exit. Law enforcement personnel from Mt. Vernon, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police Department were all involved on the traffic stop of the vehicle. 3 people were inside, and pulled over in a rural area west of Dix. Mt. Vernon Police Detectives and a Mt. Vernon Police Crime Scene Technician began to process the scene and interview those involved. During their investigation, one handgun was located near the shooting scene, a 2nd gun located along South 34th Street, and a 3rd gun was found near the traffic stop location. The 3 occupants were then arrested and charged with mob action. Those 3 individuals were 22-year-old Alexsis James, 19-year-old Isley Petties and 19-year-old Roderick Burnett. James was given an additional charge for obstruction of justice. This is an ongoing investigation and additional charges are expected.
