Prosecutors from Marion County are once again seeking the forfeiture of bond money, in regard to a Centralia man, who has failed once again to appear for a jury trial, for one of nearly 30 outstanding cases. The jury found 32-year-old TJ Howard guilty of absentia, in regard to driving while having a revoked license. A no bond warrant was then issued for Howard, who had been arrested months earlier for failure to appear on numerous cases. He had a warrant of $150,000 on that arrest. He was then located in California and after being returned to Illinois, he posted his $15,000 cash bond, in order to gain his release. He then failed to appear for his August jury trial. When Howard had previously failed to appear in court, most of his roughly $65,000 cash bond that had been posted for him was forfeited to the county. That bond was posted between August 2015 and May 2017, which included 12 felonies and DUI cases. According to the Marion County State’s Attorney, they are once again seeking a forfeiture of Howard’s bond. This time, they will be requesting what was remaining from his last forfeiture, along with the $15,000 bond that he posted after being captured in California. A forfeiture hearing is scheduled next week. When he is next captured, Howard will be denied bond, with no bond warrant being issued for his arrest.
