The Nashville High School Board of Education met last night for their monthly meeting. At that meeting, they approved two public hearings, in regard to the summary of the proposed HLS Amendment and the summary of the 2018-2019 budget. The budget did include a change in the education fund, since there was a retirement, plus an update from Kaskaskia College on revenue from the library. That budget was approved. The high school received their tax payment, which was a little above $400,000, with the district receiving all of their anticipated state aid so far. There also was a payment from last year’s 4th quarter, which was in the transportation categorical payment, for around $60,000. The board approved a new workshop sign, which will be put up next to the Washington County Fair sign on the southwest corner of the high school property. The sign is 6 by 4-feet, with a concrete base, and be made through Print Crazy, with a wooden frame. Also approved was an amendment to wait for approval on the Heathlife Safety Fun resolution, in regard to the replacement of the track and the replacement of a roof. The track has a rough estimate of $270,000, which includes tearing and replacing the track. The roof project is around the North Gym at the high school and would cost around $450,000. Both projects were approved to wait for an approval from the state, so they could take anywhere between now and 5 years before a possible completion. Also a new requirement from the state’s new funding formula was approved, where the principal and the superintendent have to give their evidence based funding spending plan for this year. Superintendent Brad Turner announced that the upcoming school board elections are coming up, with 3 positions on the ballot. Petitions are in Mr. Turner’s office and anyone who wants to be on the ballot should get in contact with Turner. After a closed session, 3 action items were addressed. Ms. Cloud had her resignation as the librarian and media specialist approved by board members last night. Also Steve Browne and Haeli Williamson were approved to become the fall play co-sponsors. Jennifer Olsen was approved to be the drama club sponsor and Sherry Harvel was approved to become a sub cook. The next NCHS board of education meeting will be on Monday, October 15th.
