CARBONDALE, Ill. — Carbondale police are investigating an early Sunday morning shooting that sent one person to the hospital for treatment.

According to a press release from Carbondale police, the shooting took place around 5:47 a.m. Sunday, in the 700 block of Lewis Lane.

Upon their arrival, officers responding to reports of shots fired in the area discovered the victim had taken themselves to the hospital in their own vehicle.

That person was treated for their injuries and released.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Police don’t believe there is a current threat to the public.
