Republic Services will be starting their leaf vacuuming service for the City of Centralia and their residents starting today. This service will last for 8 weeks and end on December 7th. Leaves must be ready for vacuuming by 6am on your scheduled day, with collections occurring from 6am to 630pm, Monday through Friday. The city asks that you 1. Rake your leaves within 4 feet of the curb, but do not place the leaves on the actual street or in the gutter. 2. Do not place leaves behind or near obstacles, such as a mailbox, tree, hedge, fence, etc. If there is an obstacle preventing your leaves from being picked up, they will not get them. 3. Avoid parking vehicles in front of the piles of leaves on the day of your pickup, since vacuum trucks require a minimum of 45 feet of curb access to safely operate. Lastly, please do not mix any trash, or yard waste with your leaves. Yard waste can include limbs, weeds, or grass clippings. That waste can cause safety concerns or equipment malfunction to the company. Those items should be placed in approved paper bags for a weekly collection or bundled up properly. For additional information or if you have any questions or concerns, you can get in contact with City Hall at 618-533-76-22 or with the Public Works Department at 618-533-76-40.
