Video gambling in Illinois has seen a significant growth, with revenues increasing by over 75-percent in just the last 3 years. This is according to a new state report. A report from last month from the state’s Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability found that video gambling racked up a net income of $1.4-billion in the fiscal year, which ended on June 30th. That generated around $70-million in tax revenue for local governments. Video gambling is the driving force behind overall gambling revenues, that reached a record high last year in Illinois. Chicago has banned video gambling, but reports show that there are roughly 11,000 individual gaming machines in the city’s metropolitan area. That’s an equivalent to adding 9 casinos. Illinois didn’t legalize gambling machines until only 6-years ago, with now video gambling terminals having popped up in bars, truck stops, gas stations and some restaurants. Illinois riverboat casinos have seen their revenues decreased by over 15-percent since video gambling machines were 1st introduced in 2012.
