Southern Illinois University in Carbondale are going to get some new flying classrooms, with the university spending around $2-million. 5 new Cessna 172 planes were purchased, which help students learn how to fly. The chair of the school’s aviation programs says that the planes will replace the 8 decades-old aircraft, that are outdated and expensive to maintain. The new Cessnas are 4-seaters, single-engine planes, that cruise around 140 miles-per-hour. The planes will be used in private pilot certification courses, instrument certifications, along with the single-engine time building. School officials say that the students will need to have fees in order to pay for the planes.
