The Nashville High School boys’ basketball team had their awards banquet last night and it featured their 2nd in State finish. Coach Brad Weathers thanked everyone associated with the season, too many to name here. The basketball teams were all introduced, starting with the Freshman team, which went 15 and 2. The Sophomore team went 12 and 4, while the Junior Varsity squad went 14 and 2 and won the conference title with a 9 and 1 record. The Varsity team went 27 and 8 after a shaky start to the season. They were named number 1 in the Class 2A preseason poll and finished runner up. That included going 19 and 3 to finish the season in the new year. Weathers said it was after the Nashville Invitational Tournament when the season changed for the better. This new outlook drove them to the championship game. Awards were handed out and Royce Newman was the Offensive Player of the Year leading in scoring and rebounding. Dylan Mueller was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Clint Johannes was named most Improved Player, while the Hornet Award went to Keegan Anderson for his competitiveness and being involved in every statistical category. The cheerleaders were also recognized last night by Coach Weathers. He wrapped it up with some memories of the season and the fact that he was very proud of this season’s team.
The team is shown wearing their wrist bands to support Dr. Gary Goforth in his fight against cancer, as was not able to get to Peoria for the State Tournament.
