CENTRALIA – The City of Centralia will offer city residents free disposal of undecorated, non-artificial Christmas trees starting Friday.
Residents may drop off Christmas trees at the south gate of the Public Works building, located at 115 E. 5th St., weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The drop-off service will be available for 3 weeks, on the dates of Jan. 2-23.
Residents are asked to remove all ornaments, lights and tinsel prior to disposal.
The city is partnering with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for placement into the city’s lakes for fish habitat.
