The Washington County Board met last night and one of the items for discussion was setting salary increases for elected officials.  This includes Sheriff, County Clerk, Treasurer and Assessor.  They are looking at 4 years of raises, starting at $1,000, then increasing $50 for the following 3 years.  The Sheriff’s salary is $56,400, while the others are $53,400.  This comes out to nearly 2 percent averaged over the 4 years.  Also, each Board member’s per diem is currently at $55 and the Board Chair gets $125, but there was talk about raising that.  There has not been an increase in 14 years.  A motion to approve the salary increases was approved.  The Board also approved a $10 increase in the per diem.  This will not go into effect for 2 years.  Those elected in November will not get the immediate increase, but after the following election, they will vote on this again and every board member will be on equal pay.
