The Nashville High School WYSE team placed 1st in State yesterday at the University of Illinois in Champaign and were escorted through town by the firetruck upon arrival in town last night. Nashville high school won division 700, for public schools with enrollments of 300 to 700, beating out 12 other schools. This is a competitive series of tests created and administered by Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering and offered to high school students in Illinois and Missouri and are designed to present a challenge to the brightest students. Test material is drawn from senior high school and freshman level college curricula. Subjects include biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering graphics, English, mathematics and physics. Nashville’s John Schroeder placed 2nd in English and won a $1,000 engineering scholarship to the U of I. Megan Hall was 4th in English, while Alex Orr was 5th in math and 5th in chemistry. Nashville’s WYSE team is coached by Jean Orr.
