It’s a big weekend and many people will be out on or in the water with the warmer temperatures. Regardless of where you are at, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers encourages everyone to wear a life jacket. They report that 9 out of 10 people who drowned at a Corps of Engineers lake or river project didn’t have a life jacket on. In fact, most people who drown never intended to be in the water, as they fall in unexpectedly from a boat or dock. It takes an adult 60 seconds to drown and a child about 20 seconds on average. Have fun, but be safe. For more information, call the Carlyle Lake Project Office at 618-594-2484.
