The owners of Lotawata Creek Southern Grill in Fairview Heights were sentenced in federal court on tax charges last week, according to a press release from the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois. Kenneth Archer and Rodney Archer were sentenced to four years’ probation and required to pay restitution for more than $219,000 plus interest and penalties to both the Internal Revenue Service and Illinois Department of Revenue after being convicted for the offense of Conspiracy to Obstruct the Internal Revenue Service in the Assessment and Collection of Federal Income Taxes. According to the release, the convictions came as a result of a scheme in which receipts from the point of sale system were manipulated over a five-year period to lower reported cash sales in order to lower taxable income.
