The Irvington Grade School Board met Tuesday night and approved the auditor’s annual report for fiscal year 2016. According to Superintendent Dave Schulte, the audit went as well as could be expected. “The board approved our audit for the year, and our score was a 3.55 out of 4,” said Schulte. “We deficit-spent last year $15,700, which was good because it could have been more than that. We have enough cash on hand to operate for 142 as of July 1.”
In addition to approving the audit, the board approved the teacher seniority list for the 2016-17 school year and heard the first reading of board policy updates. In his superintendent’s report, Schulte talked about upcoming parent-teacher conferences next week, as well as discussed the school’s Halloween and parade activities on October 27. He also reported that October 28 would be a teacher inservice date featuring a presentation from Judy Stoeher about the effects of poverty on teaching and learning. There will be no school in Irvington that day. The school received some money from the tax levy, according to the monthly treasurer’s report, but the district is still waiting on some money from the state.  “The good news is that we got a little bit of our tax levy month this week, so that helps out the bank account,” Schulte said. “We are still waiting on categorical payments from FY16, and none of the categorical payments have been made yet as far as transportation or special ed for FY17, so we’re still holding out on that money.” The next meeting is set for November 15.
