The Nashville City Council took action on a couple of items pertaining to the Nashville Golf Course during its meeting Thursday night in City Hall. The council agreed to use $13,297.17 from its video gaming fund to assist the golf course with payroll funding. The council also approved changes to its employee benefit handbook specifically dealing with golf course personnel. The council also heard from city street superintendent Rich Schuette that work on the bridge in Memorial Park leading to the golf course is expected to be completed Friday afternoon. The council approved a request from Carolyn Detering for the 12th Annual Walk With The Dogs to be held June 3rd in Memorial Park. Detering told the council that the fundraising event for pancreatic cancer research raised $41,000 last year and has generated $250,000 so for. Detering commented that the survival rate for pancreatic cancer patients has increased from 3 percent to 9 percent since the event began and that the goal is to improve that figure to 12 percent by the year 2020. The council agreed to renew its employee health, dental and life insurance policy with no changes in the carrier or coverage from last year. There was a slight 1.5 percent increase in the cost from last year. The council approved the low bid from Nashville Masonry of $1,470 to repair some concrete blocks at the city’s water plant. The council received letters from two city hall employees of their intent to retire. City treasurer Rose Hunter will retire May 5th and Jean Hoffman will retire effective May 10th. The council accepted both of the retirements and authorized city clerk Joyce Sheridan to begin the search for their replacements. The council approved the dates for the spring All Trash Days to be held on April 1st, 5th and 8th. The council approved a $500 donation for the Simply The Best youth education program which will be held March 11th.
