After a weeklong enforcement campaign, Illinois State Police announce that its troopers issued over 1,000 distracted driving citations. The campaign kicked off on April 24th and ended on April 28th. 980 distracted driving warnings were given, with 6,500 citations and warning for other vehicle code violations. The campaign was used to educate drivers on the state laws for distracted driving. State officers across the state spent over 160 hours educating the public on current penalties for distracted driving and basic rules of the road. According to Illinois law, drivers are prohibited from using cellphone while driving in school or construction zones, with texting against the law. A 1st time offenders for somebody caught texting and driving results in a $120 fine.
