Senators agreed upon expanding public financing for abortion and assuring legal access for the procedure throughout the state.  The measure is expected to be vetoed by Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner.  On a vote of 33-22, state employee health insurance and Medicaid funds would permit abortion coverage.  While as a candidate in 2014 running for governor, Rauner explained his dislike for the existing law restricting taxpayer-funded abortion coverage and his support to reverse the law if there was an effort.  Last month, Rauner explained he no longer supports expanding abortion coverage because of its controversy.  He added to that statement saying that the state needs to focus on the issue of job creation.
