Illinois Senators are scheduled to vote on measures in connection to a “grand bargain” budget compromise.  Later today, Senate members will call each piece of the legislation in their plan up for a vote, according to Assistant Majority Leader Donne Trotter.  He continued to state that time is starting to run out for the General Assembly to agree upon a state budget for the 1st time in 2 years.  Since January, the grand bargain, which is packaged of bills that Republicans and Democrats have negotiated upon, is looking at getting passed soon with the General Assembly just 2 weeks away from adjourning.  There is an answer for GOP Governor Bruce Rauner and his demands for saving costs in workers’ compensation and a property tax freeze.  No bills would take effect, unless they are approved, according to their plan.  They say that the Senate needs to know what bills work and which ones do not in order to agree upon a budget.  So, each bill will stand alone.  Even bills that were passed on Tuesday were recalled, and put for another vote as a stand-alone measure.  Law makers remain hopeful that negotiations will continue and a budget can finally be agreed before they go on leave on May 31st.
