Law enforcement officials from Illinois and Missouri are going to be hosting the 1st ever Missing Persons Day on Saturday, May 19th at the St. Clair Square in Fairview Heights and on that same Saturday at the Jennings State Office Building in Jennings, Missouri. Both events will start at around 10am and go till 8pm. The purpose of the event is to provide a location for families to report a missing loved one or to update the family on existing missing person cases by sharing additional case information with investigators. Family members are asked to bring any available photos or identification cards on the missing person, x-rays, dental records, medical records, or other identifying documents to help police on their investigations. Family members will also be given the opportunity to provide a DNA sample for comparison to unidentified human remains in cases nationwide. The samples will be collected by running the inside of the cheeks with a cotton swab. Information obtained about missing persons and DNA information provided by family members will be entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System or better known as NamUs. NamUs is a national centralized repository resource center, where people send in information on missing persons or unidentified decedent records. There are no residency restrictions for attending either of these events. For more information, head to the Greater St. Louis Area Missing Persons Event Facebook page at STLMissingPersonsDay. Again that’s going to be Saturday, May 19th in Fairview Heights and in Jennings, Missouri.
