Arson charges, which were against a Walnut Hill man, were officially dismissed on Tuesday, inside the Marion County Court. 41-year-old Jonathon Downs plead guilty to a lesser charge of a misdemeanor for reckless conduct. He was sentenced to 24-days in jail, with credit given for the 24-days already served, and ordered to pay $1,237 in court costs. Downs was arrested back in December 2016, after he called police and told them that he had a warrant out for his arrest, and he wanted to be arrested. He also reportedly told the dispathcer that he was under the influence of alcohol, methamphetamine and medications. Once they arrived to his home, Marion County Sheriff’s deputies found Downs’ truck completely engulfed in flames. A relative of Downs told deputies that he had set the fire himself and then he went back inside the home. He was then arrested on his outstanding warrant, which stemmed from a 2013 civil case. Downs eventually got charged with a Class 2 felony arson and a misdemeanor of reckless conduct.
