The Nashville City Council met on Thursday for a regular meeting. At that meeting, they approved a new hire to the police department. That hire was Justin Blavescjunas, who will begin his new position pending a drug test sometime this week. Also the police department received a quote for a Motorola APX 1500 Project 25 Digital mobile radio, from Roy Walker Communications, for a cost of $2,049.50. The city also approved a quote for 8 stop sticks for $465 each, for a total of $3,811. The stop stick will be put in each of the squad cars, with a poly needing to be written for the stop sticks. Training will be done on the use of those stop sticks. Under streets, the council agreed to move a street light to the south west corner of East Adams Street, which the city needs to have requested to Ameren. The Water and Sewer Department had 6 bids turned in for the Zapp sewer project, with Haier Plumbing and Heating being the lowest, for a cost of $112,874. It was announced that the work would not begin on that project until after the holiday season. Also Mayor Eric Rolf announced that a drug program agreement was made between the city of Nashville and the Washington County Hospital. That means that use of hospital lab services are covered for employees, to have random drug testing. Before the council adjourned, Mayor Rolf stated that a citizen of Nashville asked him about possibly having a community Christmas tree this year. She asked if a tree could be placed on the courthouse lawn. It was announced that the city could possibly have money for the purchase of a tree, which will be placed at the Depot. The next city council meeting in Nashville will be on Thursday, December 6th.
