A 12-year-old juvenile was taken into a detention on Wednesday, after he allegedly made a threat to the Zeigler-Roylaton Grade School and to a family member. Franklin County State’s Attorney Evan Owens says that the case is currently being investigated by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Zeigler-Royalton School District. All threats to school safety are considered serious and anyone caught making any threat to student, staff and district safety will be punished. Owens says that appropriate measures were taken by school officials and law enforcement officers, in order to make sure that the safety of the children and other people at the school is good. The child will remain in the custody of the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center during this time, with the child’s identity not being released, due to confidentiality requirement by the Illinois Juvenile Court Act. The sheriff’s office and school officials are confident that the child who was responsible for the threat acted alone and that there is no immediate danger to the school.
