The Nashville Community High School Board of Education met last night for their regular monthly meeting.  They recognized the accomplishments of both the golf teams on their performances at the State Championship last weekend.  They accepted the resignation of an aide, Erica Hicks, who had been full-time, but due to a change in a special education student, her hours changed to part-time and she was not able to continue at the school.  This would go into effect November 1st.  Also, Social Studies teacher, Ericka Niedbalski, had her baby and needs maternity leave until mid-November.  Both of these requests were approved.  They will be applying for some grants, especially for the Safety Grant in the future.  Some of these grants are matching grants and they hope to be able to get one to do some work on the science rooms.  A field trip to the FFA Conference in Colllinsville in late January 2014 for approximately 10 students was approved.  The Community Walkers will once again be welcome in the school to walk around during the colder weather, beginning today through March 28th, as this was approved for another year by the Board.  There will be a Public Hearing on November 7th at 7 AM on the renewal of the Physical Education Waiver, which allows for students in a sport to be exempt from P.E. class while that sport is in season.  The school is in the 2nd year of a 2-year agreement with the State, so it needs to be renewed for another 2 years.  The Risk Management Plan for 2013-2014 was approved with a cost of $206,000, which is up slightly from last year.  The Board also approved the application for Recognition of Schools, which is part of the school’s accreditation.  There will be a full compliance visit by the Regional Office of Education in January 2014 in relation to the accreditation.  Finally, the Board approved the renewal of an agreement with Greenville College to allow one of their students to come in to observe for an education class or to be a student teacher.
