The Irvington Grade School Board of Education met Monday night for their monthly meeting and Superintendent Dave Schulte reports that they approved paying the bills and enrollment is at 71 students.  The Board received the 2013 School Report Card and Schulte says the news could have been better.  (For the 1st time they did not meet the Adequate Yearly Progress standards.  They are currently working on fixing that issue.  He adds that they have high percentages of low income students and homeless students.  All of which contribute to lower scores.  The homeless rate at Irvington Grade School is 21.7 percent of the students, while the low income is at 71 percent.  There was good news about the Auditor’s report that it was very good for Fiscal Year 2013 and they received a 3.9 out of 4, which earns them the Recognition Level.  There will be a fire safety presentation today from the Irvington Fire Department.  Schulte says there will be something special for the kids to see, as there will be a dog that can do the “Stop, Drop & Roll”, as well as dial 9-1-1.  Debra Loss tendered her resignation as a Language Arts teacher for 5th through 8th grades, effective the end of the school year.  Parent teacher conferences continue from yesterday to today from 3:30 to 8:30 PM.  The school’s first basketball game is tomorrow night at New Horizon and then this weekend at the Rome Shootout at 4:15.
