The Illinois State Police of District 13 reports a single vehicle traffic crash involving a fatality in Randolph County on Ohlwine Road at 1st Road, South of Redbud, on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 1:18 AM.  According to the preliminary report, 25-year old Kyle A. Stellhorn, from Redbud, Illinois was driving his car east on Ohlwine Road near 1st Road.  For an unknown reason, the driver’s side tires dropped off of the left edge of the roadway.  Stellhorn over corrected while trying to bring the car back onto the roadway and lost control while attempting to straighten it.  The car again exited the left side of the roadway were it struck a utility pole.  Stellhorn was ejected from the vehicle.  He was transported to Redbud Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

 

 

The Illinois State Police out of District 13 report an accident that involved two semi tractor trailer trucks that involved a fatality.  It occurred on Interstate 57 northbound at Mile Post 103 early yesterday morning.  According to the preliminary report, a semi driven by 33-year old T. J. Cork Dilbert from Jacksonville, Florida, was northbound on I-57 in the right lane.  Dilbert stated he observed a vehicle merging onto I-57 northbound from the Dix Entrance Ramp at Exit 103 and slowed his vehicle to allow for that merge.  A semi driven by 44-year old Raymond M. Burt, from Kentwood, Louisiana was traveling behind the other semi in the right lane, but failed to reduce speed to avoid the crash, striking Dilbert’s truck.  Burt’s semi impacted the left rear corner and continued down the left side of Dilbert’s truck.  Burt was ejected from his vehicle.  The impact forced both units off of the roadway onto the right shoulder.  Burt’s trailer was torn open during the crash and part of its load came to rest in the roadway.  He was transported from the scene to Crossroads Community Hospital in Mount Vernon where he was pronounced dead by the Jefferson County Coroner.  Dilbert, and his passenger, 32-year old Jenely B. Dilbert, also from Jacksonville, Florida were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon with minor injuries.  The northbound lanes of I-57 were closed for approximately 5 hours for cleanup of the scene and crash investigation.  Traffic was diverted off of the interstate at the Dix Exit 103.  Traffic then resumed normal flow.  There are no charges being issued.
