The Ashley Grade School Board of Education met Monday night and Superintendent Brian Hodge says they took an Act of God Day for being off March 4th.  Graduation has been set for May 28th at 7 PM in the school gym for the 16 eighth graders.  Those students will also begin a fundraiser selling candy bars to help pay for items and events this spring, and the money they each raise will go into their account to help pay for things such as cap and gown, a ticket to Six Flags or anything else that might come up for an eighth grader.  The Board also approved the 8th Grade trip to Six Flags for May 23rd or 27th.  They also approved field trips to the Edge for lazer tag for 6th through 8th graders on May 16th and for 2nd through 5th graders to the Science Center in Saint Louis on May 30th.  There will also be a junior high school semi-formal dance on March 28th, this Friday, from 6 to 8 PM for students in 6th through 8th grade.  The Board approved the purchase and installation of a couple of bells to be mounted inside the building.  Hodge says there are some dead spots in the school, where the current bells are hard to hear, so they hope to alleviate that problem.  There were some appointments to committees and that includes Tammy Ebert, Andy Rynski and Ross Schultze to the Parent Handbook Committee, while Schultze and Donna Hicks were appointed to the Crisis Management Committee.  They decided to table their discussion about the Sherman Bus service proposal, as that contract is expiring.  The Board also tabled their discussion on technology issues that will be needed through Quality Network Services.  They did approve the repairs to the walk-in freezer unit.  The Board also agreed to pay half of the attorney fees for their work putting the paperwork together for the renewal of their line of credit.  This is an annual expense.  Hodge says the current enrollment is 177 students in pre-kindergarten through 8th grade.  The parent – teacher organization will have their own fundraiser in the near future, as they will be selling Krispy Kreme donuts.
