The Okawville Village Board met Monday night and Clerk Wayland Jasper says the Board approved several purchases for equipment, items or services.  This included $4,000 for mosquito spraying from Egyptian Outdoor Spraying for 10 applications between now and September 1st.  They then approved 62 new street signs and brackets from Newman Signs for $2,087.70, as the blue and orange signs in town are in violation of law and will be replaced by the green signs.  They also decided to get more Christmas light designs.  They had already approved 20 new lights of 6 feet by 6 feet at the February meeting for just over $7,000, but they wanted more, so they ordered 30 more, but at a smaller size.  The 50 light designs will be 4 feet by 4 feet and will now cost $15,000 from Blachere Illumination out of Christopher.  They then approved for the Street Department to sell the old lights off as they are able to.  There will be a street light placed at Wee Care Daycenter.  Ameren Illinois will do this at no cost to Okawville.  They also approved monthly billing for 7 street lights to be installed in Plum Creek Villa subdivision, out by the golf course.  They passed a Motor Fuel Tax Resolution approving $47,068 for 2014 to be used for street work, which can include putting down rock and oiling.  The Police and Liquor Committee was authorized to review bids for a new pursuit rated police car, as well as purchase with the most desirable bid.  These will come from Streuter Chevrolet and Ford Square of Mount Vernon.  A new single phase pump from Vandevanter for $4,335 to be put in the lift station.  He said it was the same to buy a new pump as to have the old one repaired.  They approved Ordinance 512 to amend Chapter 21 of the Village Code for Liquor.  Jasper says it raises the annual license fee for Class A, which is a regular bar, from $500 to $600 and Class B, which is package liquor from $400 to $500.  It also allows for the consumption of alcohol at Class B locations, due to video gaming.  It also removed the Village ownership of the golf course from the wording, as well as changes allowing consumption of alcohol from midnight to 6 AM at Class B establishments.  It will also now allow persons under the age of 21, without a parent, into these establishments, with the licensees’ discretion, due to the video gaming.  He says Road Ranger and Circle K are Class B, while the hotel, golf course, Legion Hall and CBI grocery store are Class A.
